J.D. Power’s annual U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study ranks Lexus highest in the industry, and two vehicles of Lexus’ parent company also tie for the most dependable model.

Toyota also was recognized as having the most individual model awards, with six: the Lexus NX, Lexus RX, Toyota C-HR, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Sienna and Toyota Tacoma.

It was followed by BMW and General Motors, which received for model-level awards each.

Tying for the most dependable model are the Toyota C-HR and the Lexus RX, both demonstrating improvement in eight of the nine problem categories.

The study, which analyzed 2020-model vehicles’ performance, found an average of 186 problems per 100 vehicles in the industry, six fewer per 100 year-over-year. It examines quality, component replacement and appeal across the nine vehicle categories.

J.D. Power found that “infotainment” features remained the biggest problem area among studied models, with an average of about 50 problems per 100 vehicles, nearly twice as many as the next most problematic category of exterior.
