Auto manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe continue lose production time over the lingering global microchip shortage, now well into its second year.
AutoForecast Solutions (AFS), which has been tracking the shortage’s impact since it started, estimates North American plants eliminated 31,000 more vehicles from their plans for 2022. European automakers have also cut 31,000 vehicles.
In response, AFS raised its forecast for total 2022 vehicle losses related to the chip shortage by more than 88,000.
Many European manufacturers also are cancelling some vehicle schedules amid multiple part shortages because of the war in Ukraine.
