Honda will launch its first all-electric sports-utility vehicle next year after co-developing the model with General Motors.

Named the Prologue, which it says speaks to the first chapter in an EV future, the SUV will have an estimated range between fast battery charges of 300 miles, Honda says.

Deliveries of the midsize SUV are scheduled to start early next year, and its starting price will be in the upper $40,000s.

“The arrival of the all-new Honda Prologue is a pivotal moment for the brand as Honda begins the transition to our zero-emissions future,” said Lance Woelfer, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, American Honda, in a press release.

Woelfer said the Prologue will be an entry toward a zero-emissions lineup in North America by 2040 and that it will launch 30 new EVs by 2030 with a goal of 2 million in worldwide EV sales. It said its Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, where it started U.S. production in 1982, will be its first U.S. plant to switch to EV manufacture.

The model will be available in front-wheel and all-wheel drives and three trim levels.

The SUV will also debut a new Honda name badge design, a “stylized typeface that captures the modern and clean design of Prologue.”
