LAS VEGAS — The Dodd-Frank Act and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will be in the spotlight at the 2013 F&I Conference and Expo, with the event’s educational program opening up on Tuesday with a special extended session that will convene an all-star cast of compliance and regulatory experts.

Moderated by Bob Harkins with AFG Training Academy, the panel will include: Andrew Koblenz, executive vice president of regulatory affairs for the National Automobile Dealers Association; Nikki Munro, an attorney with Hudson Cook LLP; Terry O’Loughlin, director of compliance with Reynolds and Reynolds Co.; David Robertson, executive director of the Association of Finance and Insurance Professionals; and Damon Wiener, senior vice president and general counsel of Safe-Guard Products International LLC.

“The CFPB has made a lot of noise in the first half of 2013, but we have yet to really feel the true impact of this new federal regulator,” said Gregory Arroyo, editorial director of F&I and Showroom magazine. “My hope is that our panelists will shed some light on the bureau’s mysterious agenda. They will also offer their perspective on how the Dodd-Frank Act, which created the CFPB, is impacting regulatory oversight at the state level.”

The session will open on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. with an hour-long discussion, where panelists will offer their take on the CFPB, as well as other regulatory threats. Show organizers added an extra half hour to the session to allow attendees to question panelists in what promises to be an interactive discussion.

“One of the things we’re doing is extending this session out so attendees have a chance to speak directly to our compliance experts,” Arroyo said. “They can ask about the CFPB, or they can pose compliance questions regarding their process or a new close they picked up. This session represents our chance as an industry to come together and talk openly about the regulatory environment we’ve entered.”

The F&I Conference is one of three shows being hosted at Industry Summit 2013, which is being held at the Paris Las Vegas hotel Sept. 16-18. For more information, visit www.industrysummit.com.
