Toyota recalled nearly 300,000 vehicles due to a transmission issue that could cause them to roll when in neutral.
The recall affects approximately 280,000 2022 to 2024 Tundras and Lexus LX 600s and 2023 and 2024 Sequoias.
The Japanese automaker says some transmission parts may not immediately disengage when the vehicles are shifted into neutral, resulting in some engine power to transfer to the wheels. That may in turn cause the vehicle to roll forward if no brakes are applied and potentially lead to a crash.
Toyota will update transmission software free of charge. It said it plans to notify effected owners in late April.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen recalled a similar number of vehicles due to a fuel tank issue that could lead to a fire.
The German automaker recalled more than 260,000 vehicles: 2015 to 2020 Audi A3s, 2019 and 2020 Jettas, 2015 to 2019 Golf Sportwagens and 2015 to 2020 Golf A7s.
It said an issue with a suction jet pump seal in the fuel tank may cause fuel to flow into the evaporative emissions system, potentially leaking out of the canister and presenting a fire risk.
Dealers will replace the suction pump free of charge. Volkswagen plans to notify owners by mail in mid-April.
A detailed list of effected Volkswagen vehicles is included in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall notice.
