Mass. Dealer Settles With FTC Over Deceptive Ads

After the FTC discovered that it was not disclosing substantial fees in its advertising, Courtesy Auto Group is now barred from stating the amount of any payment in its ads without disclosing the terms.

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Courtesy Auto Group has reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission for violating the FTC Act’s prohibition of deceptive advertising on vehicle lease offers, the Sun Chronicle reports.

The auto group advertised that customers could lease a vehicle for zero down and specific monthly payments, but it did not mention substantial fees, according to the FTC. The group is barred from stating the amount of any payment — or that any or no payment is required at the start of a lease — without disclosing the terms required under the Consumer Leasing Act.
